Review 2/17/2010
|
I purchased a Grundfos MQ3-45 in October of 2008 from Big Brand Water. In January of 2010 it catastrophically failed 14 months after installation. The problem appeared to be a leaking pressure tank that shorted out the electronics leaving my family and I without water for three days. I reviewed the warranty information and it clearly stated that the pump would be replaced or repaired within 24 months of installation or 36 months of being manufactured. It also clearly stated for the warranty to be in effect the product needed to be returned to the point of sale. After several e-mails and brush offs by Dan Saltsburg I finally got him to accept the return. Several days later he then requested I not only pay for shipping back and forth from him but also the distributor which I refused to do. The pump was returned to Grundfos and they claimed the pump was manufactured in 2003 invalidating the warranty. Dan implied that I had mysteriously bought a pump from a different supplier not him.
To add to the story I purchased a second new Grundfos pump from AquaSciences in RI to replace the failed pump and found out after reviewing the information the new pump was 2 years old when purchased. However when speaking to Jeff at AquaSciences he guaranteed the pump for the 24 months from installation and sent me a return note confirming.
Finally after reviewing the date code of the pump Dan stated the date was 0603 which was the sixth month of 2003. However the new pump was dated 08 / 50 which with the same logic would have meant it was manufactured in August 1950? So my guess is the original pump was a 2006 purchased in late 2008.
So beware of doing business with Big Brand Water and Grundfos. I suspect the quality of the pumps they sell and neither of them stands by their products. In addition they are saturating the market with out of warranty pumps but not identifying them as such when purchased.
